News Response

As I was getting ready for school this morning, I turned on the radio to hear a morning show host talk about a boy who faked his own kidnapping. Naturally I was curious and wanted to know the back story, so I went online and read an article on the details about what happened.
In the northern town of Xinzo de Limia, (Spain), a police officer's eleven year old son texted him saying he had been kidnapped and stuffed into the back of the car. The boy's father called him after receiving the text, the boy said he didn't know where he was going then faked phone static and hung up.
Here is an excerpt from the article stating what happend next: "A manhunt was launched with roadblocks, and news reports and APB alerts were sent out. Law enforcement was even watching the Portugal border in case the phantom kidnapper tried to cross over. The charade proceeded for several hours....".
The ordeal ended when the boy's father went home and discovered the keys to their other apartment was missing. The father went to the apartment and found his son. It turns out the child faked the whole thing to keep his parents from going to his parent-teacher conference, not wanting his parents to know about how badly he was doing in school. Apparently the police aren't pressing charges and considering it a "prank gone wrong".
