After extensive family and romantic drama the village is breached and the unconsecrated surge into the village attacking the villagers and destroying the only place of safety anyone has ever known. While trying to get onto the platforms that house the refugee villagers; Mary and her fiancée, a small boy her fiancée saved, her best friend and her fiancée whom Mary is in love with and is her fiancée’s brother, and Mary’s brother and his wife who is both fiancée’s sister are forced to enter the forbidden gate and desert the rest of the village. As their village crumbles under the weight of the unconsecrated Mary and the other survivors try to figure out what to do now that all hope is lost to them, being that the village is the only known civilization to them in existence. As the others try to figure out whether to try to go back to the village or to press on Mary insists that they travel on through the gate system throughout the forest that is pulsing with the undead, in hopes to reach the fabled ocean an endless expanse of water.
Throughout the book Mary is faced with hardships and pain as circumstances rip apart her life while ripping her loved ones out of her grasp. Traversing through the never ending fences Mary pushes herself and her band of battered loved ones through the forest of hands and teeth, letting whatever dangers come what may to reach the ocean. I find Mary’s character selfish as well as foolish, and I have found that this is the first book I have read and loved while hating the main character. I do not respect Mary and her search for happiness; I believe she should have sought contentment in her loved ones and their safety. Not her illusive ocean that could have been nothing more than a legend. I have read this book twice and I fall in love with it each time, it makes me laugh and cry but mostly it reminds me of the importance of companionship.

I like that you summarized the bok so we could have a feel for what it was about and then in the last paragraph you told your opinion about it. Keep it up

ReplyDeleteThe description you gave of this book was not what I was expecting aftr looking at the cover- I guess it follows that cliche. It's really intriguing and there's a possibility that I'll read this book

ReplyDeleteSorry for deleting the last comment. There was a mistyped word. But, it was really impressive how you were able to describe the complex and interwoven matrix of friends and loved ones. Most people can't explain something like that without a diagram. It was a good add to your reading response and increased the depth of the plot.
ReplyDeleteYou explained the story great. It sounds very intresting!
ReplyDeleteI too would hate the main character, she sounds selfish and quite idiotic in my opinion. You did a good job explaining the book though some sentences were a bit confusing.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds really interesting! It has a unique concept, which I like.
